Cliffs and Eggs

[Video - Action : For people on Route 30 near Cherrygrove City]

[ A smiling jovial face appears on the screen of the PokéGear. Sure he maybe halfway up a cliff and slowly sliding back down to the ground… which thankfully isn’t that far away… but he still sounds amused and maybe, just a touch confused, when he finally addresses the device. ]

These cliffs…
[He lands easily on the ground and is able to better handle the PokéGear instead of making his Vulpix hold onto it. ]

… they are very unique. They aren’t that high and there are plenty of footholds, but I can’t make it to the top anyway.
[Eagle closes his eyes and chuckles. ]
No matter how many times I try I always end up back on the ground again.

[Carrera chimes in with a small cry that seems to indicate, “And he has tried a lot! He’s very
stubborn!”]

Is this some kind of magic?

Also, I do have a question about eggs. I seem to have acquired two of them and I’m not certain I have been caring for them in quite the right way.

[He walks over to the shade where his backpack is and there nestled amongst the sleeping bag are the two eggs. They look cozy and secure inside that bag, but just to be on the safe side Eagle moves the small compact survival knife he purchased at the PokéMart into another pocket. ]

You just keep them from getting too hot or too cold and make sure nothing damages them? Is that all there is to it?

Carrera has been taking this job very seriously.

[As if on cue when a tiny Caterpie comes crawling out of the tall grass, the Vulpix runs over to it and roars boldly to scare the creature away from the eggs. Her over protectiveness again causes the Commander to chuckle.]

With all of this travel she seems to have learned a new skill.

Maybe you need an item to be able to climb them?

And maybe I should ask Carrera to watch over mine while I'm working! [[suggests cheerfully]]

An item to climb a normal looking cliff? It doesn’t look like you would need one… of course this place is deceptive.

[Carrera pops into view at the mention of her name. “I can watch the eggs! They don’t get into any trouble… not like some one else I know!!”]

She seems to be agreeing, if you need an egg sitter. Where have you decided to work?

It's pretty common in video games.

[[and Carrera gives a warm smile]] Amane-chan doesn't seem interested in them at all, it would be nice to know someone was keeping an eye on them.

And I'm waiting tables at the restaurant. It's not a bad job at all!

Speaking of video games… I may have discovered what this main quest you keep mentioning is. Apparently there is a rumor that if all of the gyms in this world are defeated one can return home. I was told no one had been able to do that yet.

[Which really only makes the idea more appealing. A challenge to face!]

I don’t suppose I can do that while these two are still eggs though, so I will be waiting around here until they hatch.

[Carrera nods. “That would be better. Besides I have to watch those other eggs too… since Amane-chan only likes to scare things.” ]

Waiting tables? It’s lucky they had an opening then. It sounds like you really enjoy it.

Heeeeeh, really? [[suddenly! Interest!]] So we have something to level up for! [[glee!]]

Un, I'm thinking the same, which is why I went looking for the job for the week. Especially with three! [[a small laugh]]

[[and Amane heard that, Carrera. But she's not gonna give aaanny indication. She's just going to sneak out and figure out where you are to scare you. Meheheh. Mr. Oblivious doesn't even notice.]]

Yes… apparently, since only Pokémon are allowed to battle in those gyms.

[He still sounds a little dubious about that, which just makes Carrera huff at him. “It’s not bad to rely on others… and I’m going to help whether you want me to or not.”

Her fur hackles slightly in places, though she doesn‘t know why. She just has a creepy feeling.

“Why does it feel like something spooky is coming…??” ]

Maybe I will think of looking for a job some time in the future. We seem to have enough money to get by at the moment… as long as we continue to camp out near town and we can do a little training while staying near the Pokémon Center.

You're still camping? [[A little amazed there. Three nights on the road was enough for him! He's a city kid, he's not used to having to rough it long term]]

I've been doing a bit of training with Amane-chan as well. She doesn't bother people as much in town if she gets to scare up a meal herself. [[a small laugh there]]

[[meanwhile, that impending feeling is probably getting stronger. Amane's pretty high up so she won't be noticed, but once she's in range... SHRIEKING DIVE BOMB!]]

You're supposed to talk to 'em, so they don't feel alone.

[Obviously.]

You talk to them? Even if they aren’t hatched they can still understand?

[Clueless. Technology is much easier to understand. ]

Camping is a nice change. There are so many trees here, it is nice to be able to spend more time around them.

[Biodome kid here, it’s nice to be able to visit nature instead of being constantly enclosed inside.
Maybe one day Autozam can be like this.]

[Unnatural quiet…

Then the attack! It’s so loud!
Carrera jumps and scitters off into the bushes before turning and getting ready to use Ember to defend those eggs…! But… oh… it’s that Pokémon again and not a real attack…
Hmpf… She roars at Amane-chan trying to shoo the pest away.
“You scared me!”

Eagle also looks up at the scream, far less jumpy than the Vulpix had been. But, his reaction is to smile and chuckle when he is able to puzzle out just what had happened.]

I think you might have lost something, Bakura.

Amane-chan!

[[the pokemon just cackles, floating up out of range.]]

Aaa!

[[and Bakura quickly covers the egg he had been warming before heading outside]]

Where are you? I'll come get her!

On Route 30, just beside the large cliff. The path runs right into it, there is no way you can miss it.

[[nods]] I'm on my way! So sorry about this!

[[Meanwhile, Amane seems to have spotted something and has zoomed off up the path whee a little pink thing had the misfortune of being in range.]]

She didn’t do any harm.

[Carrera yips… maybe she doesn’t agree? She doesn‘t really seem mad though, just a little more frazzled than she had been.]

Hmm… It looks like she is still hungry.

[Said while pointing the PokéGear at the small creature hopping around in the pathway that is apparently being stalked by Amane.Some one has learned how to use its most helpful feature, and the technology speaks in a mechanical voice.]

PokéGear: Hoppip, the Cottonweed Pokémon. This hopping Pokémon is light as a feather, and can be lifted by the gentlest breeze.

[[and in the near distance you can hear Bakura calling]] Oooooi! Amane-chan! [[a moment later he's visible, running up the road]]

[[Amane, glances back for a few seconds before zooming in on her target. A moment later there's a small cloud of dust obscuring what was going on]]

Aah! [[oh crap what's she doing now?!]]

[While some one and his Vulpix just watch on from under their little tree. It’s not like the eggs could be left on their own and besides… it seemed like the small hoppip might be the one in trouble not Amane.
Eagle does stand though, in case the situation changes and Bakura needs some help.]

Amane-chan! Enough!

[[The Misdreavus stops, dust cloud fading. The hopphip seems to be teetering in place, looking as if a gust could blow it over.

Bakura reaches out to grab hold of Amane, hugging her to his chest, seeming unsure what to do now.]] You nearly knocked it out...

Uh huh. I dunno if they understand, though. Friendly voices are comforting or something.

[He's not much better, trust me. But he's also 10, this sort of logic makes perfect sense.]

That is easy enough.

[Chuckle!]

Is that all or is there something more they need to hatch?

A Pokéball! If you have a Pokéball with you… you might be able to capture that Pokémon!

[Helpful suggestion shouted from the shade of that same tree.

And you might want to hurry, Carrera looks like she wants to take that Pokémon out to gain half the Experience points… but being more dependable she stays by Eagle’s feet instead of running into the middle of that fight. ]

Uh... I don't think so. This old lady said they just need to be nearby a lot, so they know they're safe.

Aa-- right!

[[pockets pockets... where's that-- Aaah! A moment of fumbling and the ball goes flying. click-- click--- snap! and it's done.]]

[[he pauses a moment, blinking before walking over to pick it up.]] It worked!

That shouldn’t be a problem since I have been keeping them in this backpack since they arrived. Pokémon seem really easy to take care of.

[And now time for a polite introduction. ]

[What do you know!? It actually works! ]

When ever I try to put Carrera in one she just pops back out again.
[Smiles at the Vulpix, teasing her. ]
She’s too stubborn to stay inside.

[And back at Bakura. ]

Do you have a name for it?

Aaa--- none come to mind quite yet! [[rubs the back of his neck, utterly embarrassed. This really wasn't planned at all!]]

And I think it needs to be healed before it would come back out. Amane-chan did a number on it!

[[Looks back at the ball again, still a little amazed at how that all happened.]]
