So we finally know the reason so many of our friends have fallen asleep. Their souls have been stolen by a Pokemon called Shedinja. While this seems difficult to believe… that kind of creature must possess some form of magic that allows them to capture souls. Do not look into the hole on their backs. Apparently looking there is what grants the Pokemon the ability to take possession of your soul.
I encourage everyone to try and capture these Pokemon. If you head to a Pokemon Center the nurses will hand you the black colored Pokeballs that were mentioned in the transmission made by Professor Oak. The creatures themselves are weak to fire and flying attacks, I am not sure what else.

Just so we can get some kind of count of how many of these Pokemon are on the loose could you list how many Shedinja you have seen in an area and how many you have been able to capture?
I have been able to capture three of these Pokemon on Route 3...

[Eagle is interrupted as Astina drives another Shedinja from the tall grass. He quickly looks to the ground as he calls out the name, “Carrera!” The Vulpix hops into the battle, launching the fire attack Eagle wants without him even having to say it, since at this point they have fallen into a sort of Pokemon catching rhythm. Shedinja attempts to harden but the fire attack is far too powerful. It wiggles uncomfortably before its last defense falls. It crashes to the ground only to be greeted a moment later by one of those earlier mentioned black Pokeballs.
Once this capture is collected and placed safely into his backpack Eagle returns to address the PokeGear again.]

Sorry about the interruption. I have captured four of these creatures on Route 32 so far those are the only ones I have seen here, but I will keep looking until I am sure we have captured them all.

Judging from the amount of worried friends on the networks, I'm certain there are many, many of the Pokemon out there, Eagle-san. Please be careful--they are still dangerous.

But they are only dangerous if you look into the hole on their back, so as long as I don’t do that I shouldn’t be in any kind of danger at all.

It is nice to hear that you have also managed to avoid loosing yourself to these creatures, Fuu. If you are going to attempt to catch them maybe I should offer you the same warning you just gave me?

I have heard some news, it seems that they are all over Jotho.

[Anew looks to the corner a little worried] Sir.. do you think that everyone has a soul? [The fact the she hadn't been attacked made her think tat, because of her origins, she doesn't have what people call "soul"]

All over Johto… I wonder where they all came from.

[That really wasn’t a very happy thought. It meant A LOT of work to get everyone back into their bodies.]

[ But, Eagle brightens again at her question. For him there really is no doubt of this at all. ]

If someone is alive then they must have a soul. Don’t you feel the same way?

[That gives her some relief, but it doesn't end her doubts]

But that would depend where your "life" came from, right?

What do you mean ‘where your life came from’?

What you say would apply with organic life forms, right? but what about...artificial ones? Do...they[Do I] have souls as well?

[Eagle takes time to deeply consider this question. There really weren’t artificial life forms on Autozam. They were theoretically possible but so far no one had made an attempt at constructing anything other than better more advanced mecha.
And he had met living mecha… Something he had been quite surprised to discover at the time. ]

I have encountered creatures that I have been surprised to discover were very much alive, so I don’t necessarily believe that it is impossible for an artificially made being to acquire a soul. I can’t say exactly how it happens of course. But, if a being is alive it must have a soul of some kind.

Thank you for the summary. So they are called Shedinja. [Pause.] It shouldn't take long if everyone works hard. I wonder what they'll do with all the caught pokemon; there are too many to keep. We wouldn't want this happening again.

I was curious about that too. What does this Professor Oak do with all of the Pokemon we send him…? Maybe that is something that I should ask.

I wouldn't want them getting loose again after all this trouble they caused.

It would be useful to know. He would keep them in the pokeballs to conserve space, I imagine. Some sort of locking mechanism so that cannot escape?

Can Pokeballs be locked? I haven’t had any success keeping my Pokemon inside of those. It seems that if they don’t want to be inside they can just open the ball and escape.
Still, that would be a lot of Pokeballs to try and store. Maybe there is a way to remove the soul stealing ability from these Pokemon?

Hm, the Pokeballs are designed for the Pokemon's comfort, trapping it in there wouldn't be wise for a normal trainer. It would be angry. Professor Oak may have a different storage mechanism in those black Pokeballs, in order to keep the troublesome ones contained.

I don't know how that would be possible. Removal of the ability would require knowledge of how it works, wouldn't it? Can you make a pokemon forget how it does things?

If they are designed for comfort then you would think they would enjoy staying inside a Pokeball. But, maybe it becomes boring after a while.

It maybe possible to get a Pokemon to forget a learned move, I have heard some rumors about that, but an ability like stealing souls. I am not sure that could be forgotten… unless the Professor has some kind of magic or technology at his disposal that we have not been made aware of.
